Aubrey O’Day Debuts Strong, Basketball Wives Big Finish

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11:45 am.

The viewers have spoken, and apparently trash reality TV is still winning. Oxygen’s new show All About Aubrey, featuring former Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day, has become the network’s most-watched docu-series launch in the network’s history in the key demographics (it debuted Monday).

All About Aubrey drew highs in total viewers (724,000) and both the 18–49 (557,000) and 18–34 (450,000) demos. The series also set records in women 18–49 (423,000) and women 18–34 (337,000) demos.

And in other news…

Tami and Evelyn’s fight was clearly on people’s agendas for Sunday night: The second season finale of VH1’s Basketball Wives drew 2.3 million viewers and snagged a 1.5 rating in the 18–49 demo, making it the highest-rated episode to date.

It’s funny listening to people trash-talk reality TV; it’s probably those same folks who sneak and watch it, hence the ratings. You already know there’s no shame in my game. I used to call it a guilty pleasure but I’m beyond the guilty part now. It’s just entertaining to watch someone else’s train wreck—as long as it’s not me embarrassing my mother.

Suzie Ketchams Ditches Season 3 of ‘Basketball Wives’

Published by Starr Rhett on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 11:00 am.

What happens to a “basketball wife” who gets booted out of the “inner circle” when harassment from Evelyn is enough? She quits the show. According to TMZ, Suzie Ketcham has decided not to return to Basketball Wives for season three because she’s over the reality TV thing.

From TMZ:
According to a source close to the production, shooting the show was draining and Suzie “couldn’t take the heat” as a reality star anymore — so Season 2 will be her last.

And the random people constantly trash-talking her on Twitter didn’t help either — we’re told by the end of the last season, all the cyber-hate was beginning to take its toll.

It’s probably those things in conjunction with Evelyn’s childish antics. She won’t admit it but those who watch the show can tell. Speaking of quitting Basketball Wives, I wonder if this means she’ll give up on trying to break into the broadcast world too.

Matt Barnes Denies Claims of Prostitute, Talks ‘Basketball Wives’ with Gloria Govan

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 12:00 am.

Matt Barnes is an L.A. Laker, but more importantly (in this instance anyway), he’s the boyfriend of Gloria Govan and co-star of Basketball Wives and he has officially denied allegations from a prostitute who claimed he bedded her.

A woman who went by the Twitter handle “Candy Deep Throat” went off on a tangent about how she was the reason Matt and Gloria didn’t marry earlier this year.

Matt then engaged in a back and forth with her only to remove his tweets later (which is pointless, but I digress).

Anywho, through his publicist, Matt issued a more formal denial:

“Matt Barnes does not know this so-called prostitute named ‘Candy’. All her allegations are false. She is personally attacking Barnes to gain fame and popularity.”

In related news, Matt and Gloria stopped by L.A.’s KTLA to talk Basketball Wives, how Gloria doesn’t get along with the other girls (womp womp) and what we can expect from the rest of season two:

Jennifer Williams Talks Basketball Wives, Splitting With Husband

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 11:00 am.

Jennifer Williams appeared on Power 105’s “Breakfast Club” with Angela Yee, Charlamagne The God and DJ Envy yesterday and they grilled her to death about everything from what’s coming up with the show to whether she’s divorcing her husband or not. She didn’t give a straight answer to the latter question but she did say that the drama will unfold on the show and that it all goes downhill. However, Angela Yee noticed that Jen wasn’t wearing her ring and blew up the spot so you can pretty much guess where that relationship is headed. Check out the video below:

Gloria Govan Talks ‘Basketball Wives’ Return & Matt Barnes Arrest

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 12:00 am.

Gloria Govan thinks she’s smarter than the average reader equipped with deductive reasoning and Google.

Despite previous cries, Govan explains why she’s returning to Basketball Wives. In short: She didn’t have much of a choice.

As for the other news surrounding her – you know, those domestic violence charges against Matt Barnes – Miss Too Good dismissed them as qualms from “nosy neighbors.”
She tells Sister 2 Sister:

Why she decided to return to Basketball Wives:

“We are contractually obligated to a certain extent. We were disappointed with season one, but Matt and I sat down with Shed Media, who developed the show, and we really had an in-depth conversation about what we want our roles to be in this season coming up. Matt has a clothing line, Illusion. We have the charity event, Athletes for Cancer.  And you can’t buy better advertising than television. So I think that was one of our main initiatives, to come back and to use the show like it’s been using us.”

The story behind Matt Barnes’ arrest:

“I just think it was something that got blown out of proportion because Matt is from Sacramento. It’s completely false. Matt is very aggressive on-court, but at home, he’s one of the best fiances. He’s an amazing father and he’s just a teddy bear. We just moved to LA together, so we are fine. I hate for him to be painted with that type of reputation, but we’ll work through it.”

Why she thinks it became news:

“I think it became a headline because we live in a community that’s just nosy. We were outside kind of arguing so I think that kind of got people interested real quick. I think the neighbors just got involved too quickly (and were) too irrational.”

Yeah, let’s clear up that part about what she said about Matt Barnes right now.

Via the Los Angeles Times:

Govan is the mother of the couple’s twin boys.

Authorities said Govan was unable to communicate with the 911 operator, but when they heard a scuffle over the phone, law enforcement was sent to the home.

Barnes, who also was charged with maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line, was released several hours later after he posted a $50,000 bond.

So did the neighbors call and you grabbed the phone? Did the neighbors call first and you called them back? Clarify.

Evelyn Lozada Compares Relationship With Ochocinco To Jay-Z x Beyonce

Published by Starr Rhett on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 11:00 am.

Evelyn Lozada, when asked if she and Chad Ochocino were engaged at this past Thanksgiving’s Jets vs Bengals game replied, “We are like Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Private people” (super side eye).  The burning question came weeks after she tweeted pics of an engagement ring and made the statement, “I’m no rabbit but 10 carats looks good on me! Let the hating begin.” Following that announcement, she tweeted a picture of a positive pregnancy test of which she stated, “OMG! I need a major time-out!!! Bye!” (She later said she wasn’t pregnant in another tweet).

So anyway, now that we’ve seen the previews of Basketball Wives Season 2, which show some intimate moments shared between Lozada and Ochocinco, they all of a sudden don’t like talking about their relationship. Riiiiiight. By the way, there’s also a rumor that the couple could get a reality show about their engagement (like that’s a huge shocker).

Here’s the kicker, people just assume that she and Chad Ochocinco are getting married (this is after about five months of “dating”) but Lozada never specifically named Chad as the one who had given her a ring.  I guess they have to do what they can to keep the interest buzzing, especially with the return of Basketball Wives looming. Gotta keep those ratings high.

Engaged: Chad Ochocinco and Evelyn Lozada

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 12:00 am.

For those of you who believe in love, I have news for you: Chad Ochocinco and Evelyn Lozada.

Can you imagine? Two attention whores with programs on the same network have announced plans to marry just in time for the premiere of season two of Basketball Wiveswhich will feature Ochocinco.

According to TMZ, Chad proposed to his lady friend of four months while she visited him in Cincinnati.

Lozada said yes and tweeted the following picture to stunt. She captioned the picture: “I’m no rabbit but 10 carats looks good on me!! Let the hating begin.”

Haters are to delusional adults what an imaginary friend is to a curious child.

Anyway, Evelyn also tweeted a picture of a positive pregnancy test.

Well, good luck with all of that you two. I’m sure the camera crew will be overcome with tears when they capture these very special moments.

New Addition To ‘Basketball Wives’ Won’t Bring Drama

Published by Starr Rhett on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 11:00 am.

Well, that’s what she says now (you never know what will happen as the season unfolds, especially as people get their buttons pushed). Ashley Walker, girlfriend of Houston Rockets point guard Rafer Alston, was recently announced as one of the new kids on the block for the second season of Basketball Wives. We already know she’ll be judged for not being an actual wife but it looks like she’s going to add a positive twist to the cast members on the show because she seems to have a good head on her shoulders. The best thing about her so far is that she probably won’t act a ghetto fool (and set Black women back even further).

“I try to bring more of a positive light and a different spin on being with a basketball player because we are still together [after five years]. That matters to some people but not to me,” the New Orleans native told Vibe. She was initially nervous about joining the cast when approached by producers because of the drama, but decided the show needed a new perspective. “I talk about my foundation and I try to stay out of all the drama going on. There wasn’t a point where I had to fight back at all because nothing was really said to me to my face. So I didn’t have to go there at all. I’m not confrontational but I’m not going to let anybody disrespect me either.”

The mother of two will be shown working on philanthropic efforts through her organization, The Mission of Love, mentoring young girls; as well as working on a bronzer line, a boys clothing line and a lip gloss line. It sounds like she won’t have time for drama even if she wanted to.

What do you think, will the other ladies just make her the new Gloria?

Two New “Wives” Joining Basketball Wives

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 12:00 am.

Two new “wives” are joining the second season of VH1’s Basketball Wives.

One is reportedly a woman by the name of Ashley Walker. She is the fiancé of Rafer Alston.

The other is a reality TV show veteran from way back, Tami Roman.

Tami starred in the second season of MTV’s The Real World. For those who remember Tami you know if there’s one thing that woman loves, it’s drama.

In fact, in responding to the post about her joining the show on NecoleBitchie.com, Tami took to Twitter to settle speculation about her and what she’s bringing to the show.

Tami said:

BBW season 2 definitey is bringing the drama-I hope u watch! Xtra luv 2 all my supporters. Watch as I keep it 100!

Yup, I’m on most of season 2- I aint gonna lie- I bring drama-I’m still me-good bad or indifferent-i aint a fake a—b–ch

VH1 Not Happy About Ochocinco Dating Basketball “Wife”

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 12:00 am.

Love (and publicity) is in the air for VH1 reality stars Chad Ochocinco and Evelyn Lozada of The Ultimate Catch and Basketball Wives, respectively.

The two are said to have been dating for several months. You know, after they kissed and made up over Chad’s rants about Evelyn’s show.

Speaking of that show, TMZ says that things are so serious between the two that Chad will show up on season two of Basketball Wives.

That’s about as shocking as news of water routinely falling from the sky.

The only problem with these two’s personal business is that it conflicts with the business of VH1. Chad’s on a dating reality show and he’s uploading pictures to Twitpic of he and his girlfriend.

VH1 worries that this “spoiler” will ruin it for viewers who are waiting to see what girl Chad ends up with.

But, honestly, given that no one from any of those dating reality shows have ever stuck with the winner of their rat race (no pun intended) you’d have to be one gullible sucker to still think this stuff really reflects reality.

That said, good luck to Evelyn and Chad in their relationship. I can imagine all of the nasty back and forth fights that await them on Twitter once they break up.
