Donald Trump Can Count on LaToya Jackson’s Vote

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 12:00 am.

As cute and adorable as one might find her, LaToya Jackson isn’t exactly the kind of person I’d look to for political insight. But that hasn’t stopped anyone from asking. With Donald Trump hinting at a potential presidential run (he does this all the time, though), the middle Jackson sister was asked whether or not she would vote for him.

Naturally, she says she’s down for the cause. She explained: “I think he would make an excellent president. I think he speaks the truth. I also feel that he knows a lot about the economy and the way [it's] heading. [The] world in general is basically involved around business with the oil crisis and things of that nature, that’s basically controlling the world at this point and this moment. He knows so much about that.”

To her credit, there is a perception among quite a few folks that business-minded people make great elected officials.  Still, not everyone cosigns that theory and Toy-Toy touched on that, too. She added: “I think he’s loved by a lot of people in America. I think he stands a chance. But then again, you have the other side who says, ‘Well how much does he really know?”

I can’t wait to see LaToya become a “political strategist” on The Rachel Maddow Show.

Celebrity Apprentice Premiere Recap (Crazy Season Looms)

Published by Starr Rhett on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 am.

The highly anticipated kick-off of the new season of Celebrity Apprentice aired last night, and it was surprisingly tame. Not only is the cast full of some very insane colorful people (LaToya Jackson, David Cassidy, Nene Leakes, Gary Busey, Richard Hatch, Dionne Warwick, Jose Canseco, Niki Taylor, Lisa Rinna, Mark McGrath, Hope Dworaczyk, Marlee Matlin and John Rich) but we’ve been hearing reports for weeks about the enmity between some of the new crop, especially when it comes to Star Jones and Nene Leakes.

However, that was only the first episode, so it was probably more like a warm-up as everyone got acquainted with each other. As per the usual in Celebrity Apprentice, the men and the women were split into teams according to sex.

The men called their team Backbone and the women named their ASAPP, which stands for Artists Singers Authors and Professionals with a Purpose. The first task was to run a pizza shop and, of course, raise the most money by peddling pies for thousands of dollars.
The women, surprisingly, got along (for the most part), and all signs of the rifts that will come weren’t that evident. But the men had some tension. Richard Hatch (from Survivor), who was the men’s project manager, lacked people skills. He was rude, snippy, dismissive and sorta kinda pushed former teen heartthrob David Cassidy, who balked at one of his ideas (instead of being like a normal human being and simply verbalizing that he didn’t agree).

Long story short, the men lost after having raised $54,000. The women crushed them by raising double, $115,000. Star Jones was the women’s project manager, so the money went to her charity, The American Red Cross.

The final boardroom deliberation wasn’t as hilarious as it could have been. Richard Hatch dragged Jose Canseco and David Cassidy in with him (Canseco simply because he didn’t like him and Cassidy because he was weak) and the end result was that Cassidy was fired, but not before Hatch referred to him as “little,” “delicate” and “a whiner” several times (ouch). Cassidy was fired more so because he couldn’t hold his own in the final deliberation. He was overtalked and outargued, and in Trump’s office, gift of gab is everything.

We’ll have to wait for the drama to heat up, but from what we’ve seen from the promos, sit tight because the storm is brewing.

Did you watch last night’s episode? What did you think?

Lil Jon, Star Jones, LaToya Jackson, Others From ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ Owe IRS Back Taxes

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 am.

Ironically, several contestants on the forthcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice owe the alphabet boys big time in back taxes. The Detroit News compiled a list detailing the tax woes of Apprentice hopefuls and approximately what they owe.

Among them are Lil Jon, Star Jones, LaToya Jackson, Gary Busey, Dionne Warwick and Jose Canseco are also mentioned for owing back taxes in varying amounts. As far as how much each owes, let’s just say the highest was in the millions and the lowest was just under $30,000.

How someone who makes as much money as these people once did falls that behind in taxes is baffling (some of what these people owe is what a lot of people make in a year, WTH) . But hopefully that Apprentice money (not the winnings, but the scale for doing the show) will help them get out of that debt. And hopefully Donald Trump can introduce them to some of his money people so they can handle their business.

NeNe Leakes Bringing Drama on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 11:00 am.

None of us are surprised. In fact, I mentioned in my last post about the new cast of Celebrity Apprentice that there was probably going to be enmity between NeNe Leakes, Star Jones and LaToya Jackson. I’d like to brush my shoulders off and take credit for my psychic abilities but such is not the case. We knew this would happen.

According to Perez Hilton, the source of the drama is Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes. The upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice just began filming in New York City but Miss Hotlanta has been making more enemies than allies. Again, among the people she’s already pissed off are Star Jones and LaToya Jackson. But sources say the real dissension is between Leakes and Jones who have been butting heads from the beginning.

However, sources also state that because NeNe is all about promoting herself, she may end up forming an alliance with Star Jones so that she can stay on the show longer (but we’ll just have to watch and see) because Jones is allegedly the one to beat this season. But that still leaves the friction with LaToya Jackson. I smell a Jones/Leakes tag team on Jackson coming on.

Looks like NeNe has been taking advice from Omarosa’s school of TV bishyness.

LaToya Jackson Wants To Be Idol Judge

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 12:00 am.

latoya-jackson

La Toya Jackson is about as musical as a broken tape deck, but nevertheless wants to take over Simon Cowell’s job should he quit American Idol.

The older sister of Michael Jackson told TMZ: “I would LOVE to be a judge on American Idol.”

Toy-Toy says it would give people a chance to know the real her.

As sweet and funny as LaToya seems to be the real her has never been known as a great singer, dancer, songwriter, or performer so what could she offer Idol?

The fan’s perspective? They’ve already used that excuse for Ellen DeGeneres.

Some people could argue Paula Abdul was never the best singer, but those folks don’t know the brilliance that is her collaboration with MC Skat Kat. Not to mention Paula helped Janet Jackson develop what’s come to be her signature dance style all the while selling 50 million albums in her own right.

I don’t see it for LaToya.

In other Idol related news, Randy Jackson (no, the other one) says he misses Paula but warned that all of this talk about judges distracts away from the point of the show.

On whether or not Simon is leaving, Randy said:

“I really don’t know until I hear it from him…The rumors get so wild and crazy, you just don’t know what to believe. It is pretty much a distraction. I think people get a little side-tracked with that. Let’s also focus on what we are judging and what the actual heartbeat of the show really is, and it is about finding that next superstar talent.”

LaToya + Tito = Must See TV?

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 12:00 am.

latoya

LaToya Jackson’s career has never been this hot.

Yes, your older sister and auntie remember her modest hit, “Hearts Don’t Lie,” but it was no “Centipede.”

Following the death of her brother, Michael, LaToya has become the go to Jackson for information on how the Jackson family has dealt with the death of their most famous family member along with updates on how Mama Kat, Papa Joe, and Michael’s three children are all doing.

And when she’s not spilling family details and theories about what exactly led to her brother’s death she’s fielding offers from Dancing with the Stars to be a contestant, The View to be a guest co-host and additional outlets all itching for a piece of Toy-Toy.

There are two new follow-ups in the post-Michael career of LaToya.

One is official confirmation that LaToya has been tapped by Access Hollywood to be a guest correspondent for Dancing with the Stars.

On LaToya joining the show Hollywood Executive Producer Rob Silverstein said, “We are excited to be able to show America how funny, clever and engaging La Toya is. She is the perfect fit for Access Hollywood and will bring a knowledgeable perspective to the show.”

With respect to Toya, I imagine this “knowledgeable perspective” is her watching Janet and Michael dance at home. Ya’ll know Toya can’t do anything that requires rhythm.

But after her run on Access Hollywood is there another reality show waiting in the works?

The producers of the UK’s I’m A Celebrity….Get Me Out Of Here reportedly want LaToya Jackson on the show. If she joined, she would be starring alongside A-listers like Amy Winehouse’s daddy and her brother Tito Jackson.

The show itself sounds about as classy as a carwash on MLK, but it would be another potential check for LaToya. She needs to keep them coming if she’s going to keep Skyping her brother from beyond. Besides, I don’t remember ever seeing LaToya and Tito together? Have they met?

Reality TV is like the world’s gift to people with no real talent but who want to be famous. That said, with all of these deals on the table has LaToya finally found her time to shine?

LaToya Jackson To Appear on The View

Published by Starr Rhett on Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at 11:00 am.

The last time the public saw (and paid attention to) LaToya Jackson was during Michael Jackson’s funeral. The next time we’ll see her is during what will hopefully be a pleasant stint on The View.

LaToya Jackson will guest co-host alongside Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherdfilling in for Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who is on maternity leave until mid-October. LJ appeared on The View back in 2003 so she knows what to expect. I didn’t see it, but she must have had good chemistry with the ladies for Walters to cosign her return. I wonder what type of dynamic she’ll bring to the mix this time aroundespecially with a different line up of women. I’m guessing she’ll be more on the dizzy side, but she’s been through recent emotional trauma, not just with losing her baby bro, but with the revelation about his alleged murder. Events like that tend to drastically change people’s outlooks on a lot of things.

Speaking of her late little bro, I hope they don’t talk about it. As much as I like to see dramatics on TV (sometimes), I don’t want to see her break down and cry. I find solace in the fact that the ladies of The View are tasteful (when they want to be) so I’m guessing they’ll steer clear, or at least handle it delicately. This could be an outlet for LJ to focus on other things. I’m probably over-thinking this but either way, it will be interesting to watch.

Jackson will tape two shows airing on September 16 and 18.
