Discovery Special Wants To Reenact Michael Jackson’s Autopsy

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 12:00 am.

There seems to be no stopping various entertainment entities from pimpin’ out Michael Jackson for profit even if he moonwalked his way into the after-life well over a year ago.

On top of the posthumous release from his record label out this week, now Discovery Communications is trying to air a special based on a reenactment of the late pop legend’s autopsy.

This has drawn the ire of several of Jackson’s fans who declare enough is enough.
TMZ reports:

TMZ has learned … fans have already collected nearly 1,500 signatures — all demanding the network pull the plug on a special entitled “Michael Jackson’s Autopsy” … in which MJ’s bloody autopsy is expected to be reenacted in gory detail.

The fans behind the petition call the documentary “an affront to human dignity” — adding, “This type of sensational and unscrupulous reporting can only cause harm.”

The petition states, “We ask the directors of the Discovery Channel programming to proceed with the outright cancellation of this indecent documentary.”

The doc is scheduled to air January 13th in the UK.

Forgive me, but why do people want a gory reenactment of that man’s bloody autopsy?

Isn’t it about time people let Michael Jackson rest in peace? Or better yet, teach James Brown how to Dougie in heaven or something?

Cast of Glee to Tackle MJ’s ‘Thriller’ Post Super Bowl

Published by Starr Rhett on Thursday, November 18, 2010 at 11:00 am.

Our favorite glee clubbers have been stepping up their song selections lately so it should come as no surprise that they will tackle Michael Jackson. There are so many MJ songs that they can do but according to Entertainment Weekly, Glee will be tackling “Thriller” for their post-Super Bowl episode but their version has a twist. They will perform The King of Pop’s classic as a mash-up with another song, which hasn’t been chosen yet.

Although “Thriller” is featured in the episode, this isn’t a Michael Jackson tribute episode. There will also be covers of tunes by Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum, and Katy Perry. According to Entertainment Weekly’s source this will be the most expensive episode in Glee’s history and likely one of televsion’s priciest episodes ever.

The post-Super Bowl episode will instead keep with the evening’s sports theme and focus on the local football championship and Sue Sylvester’s cheerleading regionals as the “Thriller” mash-up will be played during halftime of the onscreen pigskin game.

This is probably going to be an epic episode. Are you excited Gleeks?

Should Michael Jackson’s Kids Be Off Limits?

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 12:00 am.

Yesterday, TLC aired a special called Michael Jackson’s Kids: Hidden Lives.

The program gave viewers an “intimate look” (re: nosey) at the family life of Michael Jackson and his kids.

This is how TLC promoted the program:

“Through all-new candid interviews with family and friends, we see a portrait of surprisingly grounded household. From reading lessons integrated into meals, play dates with neighbors and child-proofing the home, it is extraordinary to see how much of a hands-on, caring father Jackson really was,” reports TLC. “It has been a year this month since the legendary icon passed away, but the special shows that through his three children, his legacy as a superstar and father will continue on.”

Now obviously this program is more about honoring Nielsen than Jackson as a father; however, let’s pretend programmers really mean that for a second. If one really wanted to honor Michael Jackson as a father, would they be showing footage of his children knowing he likely would’ve been annoyed by it if he were alive?

To that end, as we draw closer to the anniversary of his death, I wonder just how much programmers are going to exploit this for all its worth and what’s the best way to honor him this week.

Should some things – like his kids – remain off limits or at this point since everyone else is talking about them (including their own relatives) it no longer matters what Michael’s initial wishes were?

If you go with the former option what do you think of me a idea for a show. It’s called Who Wants To Give Blanket a Nickname He Can Actually Use Once He Turns 30?

Was Michael Ready To Appear On Jackson Reality Show?

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 12:00 am.

Michael Jackson & Jackson Five

Although Michael Jackson denied it publicly, it seems the little brother with the biggest voice in the Jackson 5 may very well have planned to make an on-air appearance on his brothers’ reality show, The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.

Executive Producer Jodi Gomes has spoken out on Michael’s involvement with the project.

JH: What were the expectations for the show before it even aired?

JG: Here’s the bottom line and I’ve never seen this before. We have hundreds of thousands of hits on a daily basis on our website and on our Facebook pages from fans all over the world. I have never seen this before. I’d say 90% of it is with extreme support for the family. People are anxious to see the show and I’ve seen on Facebook where for every 30 comments of people sharing their excitement you will see the one or two people saying ‘They’re capitalizing on Michael’s death’ or ‘It’s bad timing’ and I don’t have to respond to it because the fans go full-throttle and say ‘This is who they are. They’re entitled to make a show about their lives. It started long before Michael passed away and their name is Jackson, too, so how do you exploit something you’re a part of?’ In fact, Michael was very supportive of the show.

JH: If Michael hadn’t passed away, were there plans for him to be a big part of the show?

JG: Absolutely Michael was a future plan of the show. We had plans locked in to go to the O2 arena to visit Michael and support Michael. Michael, in fact, was very close to our project and I had numbers of conversations with him in regards to the music choice selections to accompany the show. He was going out of his way to make sure the brothers had clearance on his music, which is the hardest music in the world to clear for television. He went out of his way to make sure that the brothers were taken care of and he was so thrilled and they were thrilled.

I get it now. So Michael was happy to help them earn their own keep via a reality show, but unlike what brother Jermaine was professing Michael had no plans to be sharing hair grease with his brothers on a reunion tour. Still, I do recall this show initially being not picked up because Michael didn’t plan on doing the reunion tour and not doing the show either. Thus far the show, while entertaining, hasn’t even been able to get Rebbie to show up yet.

What gives, Jermaine, Tito, Jackie, and Marlon? What gives?

UK Television Will Have A Live Séance With MJ

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 12:00 am.

michael-jackson

Even in death Michael Jackson can’t be left alone.

A British television network is looking to wake him up tomorrow night for a network special.

Sky 1 is planning to broadcast a program dubbed “Michael Jackson: The Live Séance.”

British psychic Derek Acorah will attempt to contact Jackson’s spirit in an effort to get fans “to connect with their hero one last time.”

Sky 1’s Stuart Murphy told Yahoo UK: “There is an insatiable appetite to find out more about Michael Jackson. He was an extraordinary figure and the curiosity surrounding his life — and his death — stretches well beyond fans of his music.”

Hopefully if Michael does in fact answer the call, he yells a lot of expletives at Murphy for waking him up.

Are Michael’s Kids Headed For Primetime?

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 12:00 am.

jackson-kids

Us Weekly claims that there’s infighting in the Jackson family over whether or not Michael Jackson’s three children should appear in the A&E reality show called The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty starring his brothers.

Us claims that Ms. Centipede herself, Rebbie Jackson, has refused to be in the series arguing she “feels Michael would spin in his grave if he knew his kids would be on this show.”

Meanwhile Janet is said to be on board and mama Katherine “is just going along with things,” the source continues.

Now how many of you actually believe that Janet Damita Jo Jackson would be cool on Mike’s kids being on a reality show with her brothers?

I don’t and E! News didn’t seem to either.

After reaching out to A&E they were told the Mike’s babies “are not part of the show.”

But don’t fret, there will still be plenty of the King of Pop’s kinfolk on the show.

Executive producer Jodi Gomes told Us: “We have 23 cast members with the last name Jackson. They’ve done a great job opening up about losing a brother.”

We’ll see about that.

Oprah To Do Michael Tribute

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 12:11 am.

oprah10

Michael Jackson has been dead for months now and people were wondering why Oprah never chimed in with her thoughts on Jackson’s life and legacy.

Rumors swirled that because of Jackson’s previous allegations of child molestation Oprah was reluctant to discuss the man who gave her one of the most in depth interviews of his career.

Well, those people can hush up now as Harpo Productions has announced that the The Oprah Winfrey Show will dedicate an entire episode to Michael Jackson.

The episode, set to air Sept. 16, will feature excerpts from Winfrey’s 1993 interview with Jackson.

A press release from Harpo (who this woman) says Winfrey will remember “the King of Pop with never-before-revealed personal details” from the interview.

Hopefully, the Oprah of 2009 does a nice introduction to the bonus footage or otherwise people will still think the Queen of Daytime is throwing shade to the King of Pop.

Keep It In The Closet

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 11:25 pm.

spencer-heidi

I never understood the appeal of Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.

They have no talent and based on the few minutes of my life that I did spend watching The Hills, they’re not all that interesting either.

I’m not sure why they’re famous, but I do applaud their efforts to remain relevant and make money as celebrities – though I’m clueless as to why they are famous.

But one thing I don’t cut for is making asinine statements for the sake of getting some press. Such is the case for Heidi’s hubby, Spencer, who compared his bride to the late great Michael Jackson.

Earlier this week, Heidi embarrassed no talent blonds with singing aspirations everywhere when she performed what looked like at best looked like a pre-school level impersonation of Britney Spears.

It was so bad that even a nun would give it a side-eye, but to Spencer, it was like watching the King of Pop entering the body of his wife.

He told MTV:

“I would say [she is] the new modern day, 2010 Michael Jackson. Like, Michael Jackson’s in heaven. The Holy Spirit now has Michael Jackson juice, so boom! For all we know, Heidi gets possessed with Michael Jackson’s divine spirit.”

When asked if Heidi was the “new Michael Jackson,” he replied: “Oh, way bigger!”

Now ya’ll know he doesn’t really believe that and if he does, he needs to take his reality show tour to Celebrity Rehab.

Jacksons Sign Up For Post-MJ Reality Series

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 12:00 am.

jacksons

Before Michael Jackson died, the other four brothers who made up the Jackson 5 had shot a one-hour pilot for A&E that was to include some sort of reunion with Michael.

However, Michael never agreed to do it, and judging from his constant denials of a reunion tour, was never going to do it.

So the show was passed on, leading the other to go figure out how to go back a dollar elsewhere.

That is, until now.

A&E has approved moving forward with the series, only now the center of the show will be on how the Jackson brothers are grappling with Michael’s sudden death.

It’s been reported that none of Michael’s brothers had seen him in years outside of a few minutes at their parents’ 60th wedding anniversary party earlier this year.

As sad as Michael’s death has been, between LaToya fielding offers to join reality shows, Papa Joe pushing a new label, and now word of this show for the Jackson brothers it seems his death has done wonders for the careers of every Jackson not named Janet, Rebbie, or Katherine.

Will this be heartfelt TV or exploitation?
