Raz-B Releases Audio of Conversation With Ray J

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 12:00 am.

This probably wasn’t the sort of press Ray J had in mind, but he’s officially the latest victim of Raz-B’s viral campaign.

The ex-B2K member continued his Kat Stacks-like style of outing people and soliciting information by recording a conversation with Ray J – likely without his knowledge.

The two discussed what else but the ongoing scandal surrounding accusations Marques Houston and Chris Stokes molested him.

Here’s an excerpt from Ray J:

“I’m getting a lot of paper now. I can’t diss anybody that’s homosexual in any kind of way. A lot of n**gas and females that’s homosexuals and bisexuals, that’s cool. So I don’t want to ever get it twisted like I’m saying it ain’t cool to do sh*t and cross that path. And then on top of all that , I got the head of VH1, and I got the head of a couple other n*ggas on some fruity sh*t.

Calling, trying to get my number, taking me out on dates and I don’t need that sh*t either.  It’s going down because of the rumors and I’m in a f*cked up position, because I will never go out and say anything in the f*ggot name or anything. Anything you say like that your career is over, because people that are in that world run the industry.”

Ray J did mention Marques not technically denying the accusations he raped Raz, and even suggested to Raz that he push for a reality show. Yeah, I’ll be late for that.

In related Ray J news, here’s the trailer from season two of Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business:

New Trailer for Norwood Family Business

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 12:00 am.

An extended trailer for Brandy and Ray J’s new reality series, Norwood Family Business, has been released.

As previously mentioned, the show will chronicle the family along with their infamous parents, Sonja Norwood, who serves as their manager, and Willie Norwood, their fellow singer and vocal coach.

Sonja is said to be ready to step down from Rn’B Productions, leaving Brandy and Ray J needing to quickly learn the ropes of the business in order to move their family empire forward.

Over the years, Sonja has had a reputation for being a stern manager, so it will be interesting to see whether or not that’s captured on camera. Judging from Rodney Jerkins’ comments in the clip, I think it’s safe to say it will be.

Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business premieres on VH1, Sunday, April 11 at 9:00 PM EST/PT. Also premiering that night will be What Chilli Wants and the Shaunie O’Neal-produced series, Basketball Wives.

Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business Coming to VH1

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 12:00 am.

norwoods

Ray J has another show coming to VH1 and this time he’s bringing his entire family along.

Brandy has been tweeting for a second now about filming a new reality show and now she along with the rest of the Norwood family are ready to formally announce the debut of their new reality show, Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business.

Here’s a quick synopsis of the show:

Siblings Brandy and Ray J Norwood are famous for their incredible vocal talent on the stage and screen. But they wouldn’t be anywhere without the support and guidance of their parents – entertainment manager and mom, Sonja and talented musical father, Willie Norwood. Viewers will get a first hand glimpse into the lives of the Norwood family unit and their family business – Rn’B Productions. Run by Sonja, Rn’B Productions features an impressive roster of musical artists including Brandy, Ray J and their father Willie, who also serves as the company’s vocal coach. But with Sonja ready to take a step down, Brandy and Ray J will have to fill her shoes quickly all the while taking the family business to the next level. Will they have what it takes to continue to stay in the limelight while growing an entertainment empire?

The show will feature both during the recording process with Brandy working with Timbaland and Ray J collaborating with Rodney Jerkins.

This actually sounds promising. Brandy’s always been a pretty solid actress, but her last foray into reality TV almost eight years ago, Diary Presents: Brandy — Special Delivery, wasn’t half-bad.

Let’s just hope Ray J leaves those ratchet girls from his other reality show off this one. Yes, that’s shade. An eclipse, for that matter.

Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business premiers on VH1 Sunday, April 11, at 9 p.m. EST.

Now tell me: Are you looking forward to the show?

Mz Berry Wins the Love of Ray J

Published by Starr Rhett on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:00 am.

Ray J chose his girlfriend last night—again. And based on the outcome I think we’ll be watching For the Love of Ray J Season 3 this fall. Ray J claims there will be no more but I don’t believe it. Mz Berry seemed cool but she wasn’t the right choice and neither was runner up, Platinum. Mama Norwood told him that none of those women were right for him and I agree (mother’s always know). He should have picked Shardonnay from season one. I’m still mad about that but I digress.

Last night’s episode was the usual fare. Ray J went on separate dates with each girl to help him make his final decision. He said,”Platinum connects with the man that I am now and Mz Berry connects with the man that I wanna be.” (A divorcee with two kids?).

“Keeping it one hunned,” as always, was the primary theme of the show (side eye) and in the end his reasoning for choosing Mz Berry was because he wanted to try something new because Platinum “felt like a lot of relationships that he had in the past” (um yeah, she looks like Cocktail and Kim Kardashian’s love child).

Good luck Ray J, and see you soon. You’ll be back. They always come back. His show is too entertaining for producers to let him be.

Still Got Love for Ray J?

Published by Michael Arceneaux on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 12:00 am.

rayj

You all really love reality shows based on love, don’t ya?

Have to because VH1 has built an empire out of it. The network’s latest reality star chasing “love” (of publicity, money, and fill in the blank here) is Ray J.

Ya’ll couldn’t get enough of For The Love of Ray-J and as a result VH1 has green lit another season set to premiere on November 2.

Via the press release:

For The Love of Ray J 2” will bring 19 beautiful single ladies to Ray J’s luxurious mansion in the Hollywood Hills. With the help of VH1, Ray J will be able to see first-hand who can handle his fast-paced celebrity lifestyle. From hitting the hottest spots in LA to seeing if they can deal with the pressures of being Ray J’s girl, these women will be put to the test. Every week the ladies will get a chance to convince Ray J that they can keep up with his life in the spotlight and that they will do anything “For The Love of Ray J 2.”

Week by week Ray J will narrow down his entourage of female suitors hoping that he can find that one woman who can handle his iconic life. The ladies will be put through unique challenges, dates and eliminations to prove that they have love for Ray J. In the end, one special lady will win the ultimate prize -Ray J’s heart.”

Ray J’s heart, eh? The show could be called Mr. Potato Head’s Hunt For Love and they would write the same thing. Not to mention that “heart” used to come with a spread in King, but hey, these girls can still be grateful for the blogs to extend their 90 seconds of notoriety (calling it fame is a bit much).

You can catch a sneak peek of the season premiere of For The Love of Ray J 2 on VH1.com beginning Tuesday, October 27.

Ray J Looks For Love, Round Two

Published by Starr Rhett on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11:00 am.
RayJ

RayJ

The word around the blogosphere is that For the Love of Ray J will return for a second season. Given the track record for these types of shows, I’m not surprised. I initially brushed it off as blog rumor (since it typically takes about 10 blogs to equal one half-credible news source anyway) but did some investigating and surprise surprise, Cocktail, winner of season one, announced via her MySpace blog that she and Ray J were no longer together.

“When I was on the show, I truly fell for Ray. I invested my time, effort, and emotions into him and wanted things to work,” said Cocktail. “But the reality of reality television is that it doesn’t always work. Ray and I are no longer together. We have not been together for awhile now but we have remained friends and when we hang out we have a great time. I miss him very much and respect what decisions he has made.”

Blah blah blah anyway, she never stood a chance. I’m convinced that the contracts for these shows come with a ratings clause. If the show gets a certain amount of ratings, then season two (and possibly three) are automatic givens. Besides, who genuinely finds love in er, three weeks? I’m not complaining, it makes for great entertainment (more fuel for my reality TV addiction). Plus, anyone who goes on these shows really looking for love and not shameless promotion, is playing themselves. If you are said individual looking for 15 minutes of reality TV fame (or maybe you actually do have a crush on Ray), casting for season two has begun, as per Vh1’s website:

4.2 million viewers tuned in to see Ray J pick his leading lady on the For the Love of Ray J finale episode. Cocktail was crowned the winner and all seemed great for the happy couple. We next saw them on the reunion episode where both let viewers know they were excited to see how their relationship would progress! Ray J thought he had found “the one” but unfortunately, things didn’t work out – and he’s now single again.

As viewers saw last season, dating a hip-hip star is a full-time job which includes red carpet events, the paparazzi and handling all the crazy fans. For Ray J, dating has never been an issue – it’s finding the perfect woman that can be harder than you think… especially when you’re a celebrity. Since things didn’t exactly work out with his last girlfriend, Ray J is back to give love a second chance. As R&B’s most eligible bachelor, Ray J is determined to find a woman he can settle down with.

VH1 is looking for women with confidence, personality and class that can handle the pressure of being with a superstar and turn Ray J into a one-woman man. Beginning today, viewers and fans will have the opportunity to submit themselves for consideration on For the Love of Ray J 2. Online users can log onto VH1’s For the Love of Ray J 2 casting site at www.rayjcasting.com.

Ray J Chooses Cocktail

Published by Starr Rhett on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 12:00 pm.

Mama Norwood said it best when she said, “No, no and no” in reply to Ray J’s question, “Who do you think I should choose?” about the final three women.

After the drawn out hour and a half theatrics of last night’s episode were finally done, Ray J chose Cocktail to be his leading lady. Cocktail was a cool girl but I don’t think she was the best match, nor was Unique. I was actually hoping that last night’s episode would end in a draw, meaning that he didn’t pick either girl and that season two was only a couple of months away (which it might be given VH1’s dating show track record). However, he felt obligated to settle. The most rational decision he made last night was eliminating Danger. He started to see that she was insane which, anyone with a face tat is probably not stable but I digress.

On top of everything else, I’m still mad that Chardonnay got clipped. She was the realest most honest, and down-to-Earth girl in the house. I wish she had won. It appeared as though they had a lot of chemistry but if Ray J only felt her as a friend, then so be it.

The reunion show will be interesting. I’d like to see if Cocktail and Ray J are still interested in pursuing a relationship after three months of separation. Something tells me that seasons two, three, four and five might be in effect. OK, I’m exaggerating, or maybe that’s wishful thinking.

Brandy Gets Role in Forthcoming TV Show

Published by Starr Rhett on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 8:57 am.

Ray J’s reality show is winding down (unless they come back with season two) but Brandy will make a TV comeback via ABC’s Little Piggy.

According to singersroom.com, the show is centered around a family man who’s forced to take in his younger brother and sister when times get tough. This Little Piggy will feature Brandy as the high maintenance wife of the younger brother played by Jeff Davis. The pilot is expected to air later this year.

Brandy made her television debut in 1993 as “Danesha Turrell” on Thea and starred in Moesha, her own show, in ‘96. This Little Piggy marks her first scripted television role since appearing on UPN’s One On One in 2006.

Good luck Brandy! It’s good to see her back on the scene again. I wonder if her daughter will follow in her footsteps.

Sistas Didn’t Fight For the Love of Ray J

Published by Starr Rhett on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 2:11 pm.

Photobucket

Reality TV comes with an automatic judgment factor. The level of judgment—ranging from people thinking you’re cool, to people thinking you’re the dumbest person on the planet—depends on the show. For example, if you told your friends you were going on Suvivor people would most likely be impressed and say that you were brave. However, if you told your friends you were going on Flavor of Love or For the Love of Ray J, they might play coy in your face, but they’re secretly preparing to pretend they don’t know you once the show airs.In last night’s episode of  For the Love of Ray J, he divided the women into teams and had them prepare for a boxing match. Each woman got to choose who they’d spar against and Danger chose her number one enemy in the house, Unique. On one hand, I wasn’t too thrilled to see these sistas not only fighting on TV, but acting a’fool over a man. But on the other hand, it is For the Love of Ray J, foolery is to be expected.

The first and only round featured Lil’ Hood, the self-proclaimed ghetto White girl, and Feisty, the animated Latina from Miami. Their fight made it quite clear that the boxing techniques they learned moments prior flew out the window as they began swinging windmill-style, in a full on cat fight. Once the round was over, Unique rallied her team and they all decided that they wanted to remain “ladylike” by not fighting and “embarrassing” themselves on TV. At first, I was happy that she made that decision because I didn’t want to see my sistas acting brawling on TV, but then I thought about it and realized that they’re generalized as fools by default because of the show they’re on.

In conclusion my questions are 1: Should we be proud that Black women stood up for themselves on TV by not fighting each other? 2: Do their noble efforts get canceled out because they’re still shamelessly vying for the affections of a man, meaning that even though the altercations weren’t physical, there’s still fussing, screaming, eye and neck rolling?

Reality TV Trend Alert: Face Tats

Published by Starr Rhett on Monday, February 23, 2009 at 2:22 pm.

American TV reflects the nation’s fascination with either reform, or people finding love. MTV’s From G’s to Gents is back for season two, and the newest celeb contender tackling cupid is Ray J. But with so much monotony (that we still love, by the way) on “reality” TV, how can contestants on these shows stay new and original? EUREKA! A face tattoo!

In my mind, face tattoos mean one of three things — a. mentally unstable, b. extreme confidence, c. attention seeker. In the cases of Danger from For the Love of Ray and Macho of From G’s To Gents, I go with choices b. and c. How else are they supposed to stand out?

Check out the exhibits:

A. Danger – Ray J’s potential lady love with the tiger tat on her right cheek.

Photobucket

B. Macho – Fonzworth Bentley’s degenerate-seeking-transformation-into-gentlemanhood, with the diamond tat — also on his right cheek.

Photobucket

Whose tat is better? I choose, drum roll please…Danger! Even though getting a face tattoo is extreme, I like that she got a tiger. Tigers are fierce and ferocious, but also beautiful and majestic. With Macho, diamonds are a girl’s best friend cliche. He lost based on unoriginality, especially since he’s a tattoo artist. Who’s your top pick for the best face tattoo?

For the Love of Ray J airs Monday nights at 10pm EST on Vh1, and From G’s to Gents airs Tuesday nights at 10pm EST on MTV.
