Today, actress Nia Long will serve as a guest co-host on ABC’s The View.
I’m assuming the actress will discuss her latest film project, Mooz-Lum, a drama from Qasim Basir that chronicles the struggles one Black family faces while practicing Islam in American society.
Hopefully, she’ll be asked to expound on previous comments she made about “Black Hollywood” being phased out. Would love to hear what she thought about Anthony Mackie’scomments that Black filmmakers and writers need to essentially step it up.
Of course this will only be after she’s forced to chime in on Charlie Sheen cutting up on every major news program imaginable.

On this morning’s edition of The View, DeSean Jackson and a group of his teammates from the Philadelphia Eagles, visited the set to meet up with a bullied teenager profiled on the show.
Nadin Khoury was reportedly bullied and beaten and by seven older teens. After beating Nadin, the attackers hung him on a fence by his clothing. The attack was videotaped and subsequently chronicled nationally.
Nadin appeared on The View with his mother and stepfather to speak openly about the incident.
On being targeted, Nadin said, “They were messing with me because I’m one of the smallest ones and, when we first moved to the area, they saw my mom was African and they made fun of my mom a lot.”
After discussing his experiences with the panel, Nadin was surprisingly greeted by DeSean Jackson, Todd Herremans and Jamaal Jackson.
DeSean Jackson gave him the jersey off his back and autographed it for him.
The Eagles star told Nadin that each of them ‘had his back’ if anything happens again.

Sherri Shepherd is a hustler. Her latest foray in the world of TV is hosting The Newlywed Game. Her plans are to make this version of the show edgier than some of her predecessors, particularly original host Bob Eubanks, who coined the phrase “making whoopee” in the late 60s, as a euphemism for sex.
Today, Shepherd says she is going to pry into the newlyweds’ sex lives as much as she can and she isn’t holding back.
“This version of The Newlywed Game is much edgier than the original, so I ask couples all kinds of embarrassing questions. But we still use Bob’s ‘making whoopee’ term because it’s classic and just fits with the show. I relish using it; It gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling,” Shepherd told AOL News. “It’s extra weird for me though, because every time I say ‘making whoopee,’ I think of my friend, Whoopi Goldberg. I work with her every day [on The View], so I’m always thinking about Whoopi!” she added.
Shepherd also said that hosting The Newlywed Game has always been a secret dream of hers because as a child. She mentioned that she watched Eubanks’ original version with her grandmother but added that the new version “ain’t your grandmother’s Newlywed Game.”
What do you think? Will she do a good job?
Shepherd’s run begins on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. on the Game Show Network.

Stephen Colbertrecently paid a visit to The View and talked nonsensically about various random topics (but if you watch The Colbert Report, then you know his humor) like snakes not reproducing and being terrified of bed bugs. He then said that Whoopi Goldberg was being rude to Bill O’Reilly, which segued into him making a facetious comment about agreeing with Whoopi G, “Because I’m on your show, I agree with Whoopi,” he said. “I think there should be Mosques everywhere.”
He also said that O’Reilly, whom he calls Papa Bear (“Because he’s huge and can rip my head off” says Colbert), wasn’t talking about facts, he was talking about emotions because it felt right, which led to Whoopi’s response justifying her own walk off (that it felt right for her at the time). Finally, in mock fluster Colbert stormed off. The whole thing was rather amusing.
Did you notice how dry the women were? Geez, they didn’t laugh at all.
In other news…
I hope you got a good chuckle to jump start your Wednesday.

You shouldn’t be surprised. Bill O’Reillypisses people off with his irrational radical views for a living so it’s nothing new. Yesterday, he visitedThe View to promote his new book. Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg were visibly irritated just at the fact that he was there, a fact that he pointed out, but things got heated when he started making comments about Muslims and the mosque that is possibly going to be built at Ground Zero. He said something along the lines of accusing Muslims (the whole group) of attacking America as reasoning for why building a mosque in that location wasn’t a good idea. Goldberg and Behar angrily called him out, saying that it wasn’t fair to generalize all Muslims. It all went downhill from there:
Barbara Walters was clearly irritated with her co-stars and she has a point that they should have all been able to come together and have a normal rational debate. But, Whoopi G and Joy Behar are human, sometimes people get upset. No one on The View is objective about anything so couldn’t they have walked off if they were that upset? After all, Billy Boy has that effect on people.
On the flipside, it’s not wise to let anyone get you that worked up because then they seem to have the upper hand. But in this case, at least they came back after gaining some composure (and O’Reilly’s halfhearted apology).
Where Whoopi G and Joy Behar justified in walking out on O’Reilly?
What are your thoughts on the Islamic Cultural Center being built down at Ground Zero?

Sherri Shepherd has been named the new host of Game Show Network’s The Newlywed Game.
“I am beyond thrilled,” the Emmy-winning co-host of The View told Black Voices. “The Newlywed Game is one of my favorite game shows and I have loved it since Bob Eubanks was the host.”
The comedienne will begin her new gig when the re-launched version of The Newlywed Game returns for its fourth season this November.
“I’m greatly honored that they thought my sense of humor would go well with the show. I can’t wait to interact with the couples and just have a good time,” she said.
Singer Carnie Wilson hosted the first three seasons of the show, but she was fired earlier this year according to BV. Shepherd recently wrapped production on a starring role in the movi, One for the Money and she begins taping the new season of The Newlywed Game in New York City in September. So it looks like she’ll still be going strong on The View.
It’s ironic that she’s so vocal about her divorce and often uses it as a source of her comedy, yet she’s going to host a newlywed game show. Those sneaky producers, they sure have a good sense of humor! But hopefully Shepherd won’t lay those divorce jokes on too thick. That would be awkward.
The Newlywed Game will premiere on Monday, Nov. 1 at 6:00pm EST.

Buzz about The Real Housewives of DC was swirling the web months before the cast was determined, but tonight is the night! It premieres on Bravo at 9pm.
One of the major issues about this group of women was the fact that Stacie Turner, who is also a former BET employee (she worked in marketing), is the only Black woman in the cast. Um, hello! DC is Chocolate City. Talk about an elephant in the room.
The cast of DC Housewives appeared on The View yesterday to give a sneak peek of the show. Joy Behar pointed out the obvious and asked Turner if she felt that she had any pressure to “represent the race.” Her response was priceless:
“I do [feel pressure]. DC is known as the Chocolate City. It’s almost as crazy as Real Housewives of Jerusalem with only one Jew.”
She kept it all the way real and I love her for that. She has officially been selected as my favorite cast member but I digress. Check out the show trailer below:

CBS is replacing As the World Turns with an hour-long daily talk show this fall. The show will feature six co-hosts, all mothers, and one of those women is Holly Robinson Peete.
The daytime talk show is currently untitled for now, but it will also include Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert (Roseanne), Broadway actress Marissa Jaret Winokur, Leah Remini (The King of Queens) and Julie Chen (who hosts CBS’ Big Brother and The Early Show) as co-hosts.
CBS said the show will tackle moms’ views of pop culture and news stories. It will obviously rival The View, but the mothers will probably offer a fresher perspective.

During the June 22nd episode of The View, Sherri Shepherd along with D.L. Hughley, blamed the increasing HIV rates among heterosexual black women on closeted black men.
Hughley said, “When you look at the prevalence of HIV in the African American community, it’s primarily young women who are getting it from men who are on the down low.”
Sherri added, “It’s so big in the black community with women because they’re having sex with men who have been having sex with men.”
This, of course, is a theory that’s been dispelled countless times since the “Down Low” phenomenon initially made its way onto the national scene.
Needless to say, a lot of people are upset with two comedians regurgitating falsehoods about such an important issue on such a highly popular talk show.
The gay media watch group, GLAAD, took out an ad in Variety condemning that episode and demanding that ABC and The View correct themselves.
The ad, also endorsed by the Black AIDS Institute and the National Black Justice Coalition, reads as follows:
“The Centers for Disease Control has publicly disproven this myth. And since June 22, thousands of people have written to ABC, asking that The View provide correct information to viewers. Unfortunately, those requests have been greeted with silence from both ABC and The View.”
I respect freedom of speech, but when you’re misinformed and spreading falsehoods, this is what happening next.

Jacque Reid will be returning to The View as a guest host on July 21. The popular radio/TV host recently starred on Vh1’s Let’s Talk About Pep, where she seemed obsessed about getting married and subsequently became the poster child for single professional Black women. But in other news, she has other stuff to talk about and we will see more of that when she joins Whoopi G n’em.
“I am looking forward to returning to The View to guest host. I always enjoy the opportunity to be on that show,” Reid told Black Voices.
Reid, a former news anchor for BET and CNN, was initially considered for Star Jones’ vacant seat on back in 2007 but Sherri Shepherd got the gig. She currently works as a co-host on the D.L. Hughley Morning Show on New York City’s Kiss-FM (98.7), and can also be heard on the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, where she offers female-driven commentary twice a week.
